The Ambassadors’ Ball, in benefit of Design Trust was held on Friday, 4th of November 2016 at PMQ, Hong Kong. Themed as “Dare to Dream”, Stickyline, a young Hong Kong designer duo were the creative directors for this year’s ball.
They drew inspiration from one of the local comedian Stephan Chow’s top grossing shows, Shaolin Soccer – “without any dreams in life, we would be like salted fish”. This served as a reminder to all of the power of dreams and the importance of pursuing one’s dreams; even if it may seem far-flung or a radical idea. Their salted fish sculptures peppered the gala event, with red and yellow as the bright backdrop of the event.
This annual benefit brings together the design industry influencers, stakeholders, art connoisseurs, creative talents, collectors and society icons, to celebrate and promote Hong Kong’s rich community of creativity and design. HKSAR Chief Secretary for Administration Mrs. Carrie Lam, GBS, JP graced the event with her presence as Guest of Honor, followed by the auction and music performance by local talent Jing Wong. Our executive director also announced the 2017 M+/ Design Trust fellow, Thomas Daniell and upcoming new programmes such as the Futures Studio.
We would like to extend our sincere gratitude and appreciation to ball committee members, table hosts, sponsors and auction lot donors for their generous patronage. As we countdown to 2017, we also mark the much anticipated countdown to the 10th anniversary of the Hong Kong Ambassadors of Design.
