The funds raised- advocate for the positive values that design brings to our city and beyond with a mission to advance design competency and expertise building for the benefit of the public, and supporting young scholars and emerging designers to excel in their research work, projects and career growth.
“HKAoD registered charity was formed in 2007, as a small non-profit with big dreams to enlivening our city through cultural experiences and promote design and creativity. To date, in benefit of Design Trust, we are proud to have enabled research grants, design and culture projects. At this year’s event, we are delighted to announce a new honouree award in recognition of a Hong Kong designer and architect that has contributed to the city and the Asia region" says Alan Lo, Chairman of the Board of Directors.
For this year’s Design Trust event , the original Archigram partners Sir Peter Cook and Dennis Crompton will create an immersive environment exploring ideas central to their influential work that suggested changeable cities, walking cities and throw-away buildings, and in collaboration with Design Trust’s Hong Kong grantees : DTBY_, SKY YUTAKA, NEW OFFICE WORKS and HKDHNet. The spatial design will offer an interactive and ever-changing experience for attending guests, with elements of the installation to live on for further design research and education.
“This year’s Design Trust event will be more important than ever,” says Marisa Yiu, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Design Trust. “We believe working with Archigram and their mentorship of young Hong Kong designers to create the Gala’s architectural environment will make a bold statement about the positive physical and emotional impact that design and architecture should have on our city. Their experimental approach has always focused on human needs and creating a hopeful, better way of living which feels timely and necessary for us here and right now.”
