Design Trust Impact Grant initiative Open House Hong Kong 2026, returns for its third edition across three weekends on November 28th – 29th and December 5th – 6th, 12th – 13th, 2026. Following the inaugural 2024 festival and the expanded 2025 edition, the city-wide programme will open more than 80 sites across Hong Kong through docent tours, self-guided visits, and dialogue programmes. Supported by Design Trust as Foundation Partner, the initiative celebrates Hong Kong’s rich architectural heritage and urban culture.

Open House Hong Kong is an annual festival established to showcase the diverse architectural landscape of the territory. By facilitating direct public access and engagement with the built environment, OHHK deepens public knowledge regarding urban development, historical preservation, and spatial design. The festival highlights how thoughtful architectural planning contributes to creating a livable, inclusive, and resilient city. For the upcoming 2026 edition, OHHK unveils more than 80 architectural sites across Hong Kong through expert docent-guided tours, open-door visits, and self-guided routes, alongside dialogue programmes curated to expand cross-border architectural research, and regional collaboration across the Greater Bay Area (GBA).
The inaugural Open House Hong Kong in partnership with Design Trust, took place on September 21st–22nd and September 28th–29th, 2024. Introducing the international Open House model to Hong Kong, the inaugural edition provided 95 guided tours across approximately 50 architectural sites and buildings throughout the city. Over the course of the two weekends, hundreds of participants attended the scheduled programming, with the participation of 94 public volunteers and 60 expert docents from academic institutions and professional practice, who collectively provided context on the historical, social, and structural aspects of the featured locations.
Building upon this precedent, Open House Hong Kong 2025 was organized around the curatorial theme “What Makes a Good City?” in November 2025 with initially structured 150 guided tours across the festival calendar. On its opening weekend of November 22nd–23rd, 2025, over 1,000 participants joined tours led by more than 80 expert docents. The 2025 programming featured a broad range of architectural typologies and historical sites, including the City Hall Memorial Garden Tour, the CUHK Art Museum Lo Kwee Seong Pavilion Tour, the Kowloon Municipal Services Building, the Lai Chi Wo, the Maggie's Cancer Caring Centre tour and many more.
Open House Worldwide is the non-profit organisation that has spearheaded the Open House model in over 50 cities globally since its founding in London in 1992. The goal of the Open House is to promote public awareness and appreciation of architecture and design. By providing free access to notable buildings, the festivals aim to engage local communities and visitors alike in experiencing the built environment first-hand.
Design Trust is pleased to continue championing Open House Hong Kong with Design Trust Impact Grant, which supports public-facing and community-based projects led and driven by former Design Trust grant recipients, fellows and mentees with proved track record to advance their research supported by Design Trust to expand its knowledge impact. Engaging various stakeholders from public and private sectors as well as academic and industry experts with international exposure, the projects awarded benefit the public, and contribute to the critical research and experimentation while piloting innovative models of community engagement at different scales. Through the Design Trust Impact Grant, Design Trust remains committed to empowering grantees, fellows, mentees alumni to lead these public discoveries, reflecting an optimistic spirit and design resilience across the region.
