We are excited to launch a new flagship programme Design Trust Futures Studio, conceptualized by Marisa Yiu, Co-founder and Executive Director of Design Trust. Formatted as a series of workshops, discussions and conceptual design interventions, Mentors and Advisors work closely with Designer Mentees to showcase new ideas and works to the public. Cross-discipline in nature, experts in field will focus on future thinking with outcomes that are impactful to society or public space relating to Hong Kong and the Greater Pearl River Delta Region.

The 2017 inaugural theme is “SMALL IS MEANINGFUL”, focusing on concepts of smallness, sharing, the phenomenon of micro-housing today and the future of micro-parks.

Since the introduction workshop in March, the Designer Mentees have attended various workshops and fieldtrips with Mentors Gary Chang, Elizabeth Diller, Mimi Hoang, Sam Jacob and Stanley Wong and Advisors Elita Lam and Ricky Yu, and worked closely with the Mentors in teams to develop conceptual schemes and prototypes. In early July, the teams will present their conceptual ideas and in October there will be an exhibition showcasing their final prototypes.

Presented as part of the first-ever Storefront International Series: Hong Kong (Storefront IS Hong Kong), the Public Ideas Review on 8th July 2017 at Spring Workshop will include two sessions. In Session 1, also presented as the Storefront IS Hong Kong “Definition Series: Smallness”, the designer mentees will present their definition for smallness and their conceptual ideas for future micro parks followed by discussion with guest critics. In Session 2, also the Storefront IS Hong Kong “Manifesto Series: Scale”, the Designer Mentees will focus on micro parks and denounce a present or past condition; proclaim an alternative present, past, or future situation; and indicate a strategy or method of action. Members of the public are welcome to join both sessions.
