20. 12. 2023

We are pleased to share a selection of upcoming Design Trust Grants and Fellowship events from January to March 2024, including the launch of Design Trust Seed Grant publication “The Untold Stories of Hong Kong Architecture” by Raymond Fung in February 2024, Design Trust Feature Grant publication “Care Manifesto” by Naiyi Wang during Guangzhou Design Triennale from January 13th to April 10th 2024, and public talk of M+ / Design Trust Research Fellows Farzin Lotfi-Jam & Mark Wasiuta and Jason Lau in March 2024. Our Design Trust Decade 2024 Charity Auction will take place on March 22nd 2024 celebrating 10th anniversary of Design Trust, and registered charity Hong Kong Ambassadors of Design since 2007.

Design Trust Seed Grant publication “The Untold Stories of Hong Kong Architecture” by Raymond Fung captures the unknown stories of Hong Kong architects. Although Hong Kong has produced many internationally renowned architects and designers who have contributed significantly to its cityscape, there are many local voices, designers and architects who have played the critical role in shaping the city of Hong Kong. The launch of this publication is scheduled for February 2024.

Design Trust Feature Grant publication “Care Manifesto” led by Naiyi Wang is an urgent response to how to care in uncertain times contributed by 50 practitioners and researchers from the Global South and Global North. The publication is edited and developed through the Care Pavilion at London Design Biennale 2023 in response to the challenging times. The “Care Manifesto” is scheduled to launch in January 16th to May 12th 2024 as part of the Guangzhou Design Triennale.

The public talk of M+ / Design Trust Research Fellows Farzin Lotfi-Jam & Mark Wasiuta, and Jason Lau will take place on March 9th 2024 at M+ Museum. Farzin Lotfi-Jam & Mark Wasiuta’s research investigates the intensifying urban development pressures in Southeast Asia, with a focus on computational and data-driven planning. By studying selected cities across Southeast Asia, Lotfi-Jam and Wasiuta will explore the deep implications of computational development and ‘smart’ urban futures for the region. Jason Lau explores new forms of mobile technologies in China. The project has undergone historical analyses through interviews, and participatory observations to question different aspects of Chinese Alternative Design, attempting to understand how new forms of realities are created through design and technological advancement. The public talk will mark the completion of the 2020 M+ / Design Trust Research Fellows’ research works while continuing the discussion with a wider and international community.
