Design Trust Futures Studio 2018 Concept Presentation.

DESIGN TRUST FUTURES STUDIO 2018 officially launched with DTFS 2018 Concept Presentation on 21st April 2018. The four designer teams presented their designs and concepts to a full-house audience, and received feedback from guest critics representing different industries from the public and private sectors. Guest critics include: Michael Young (Founder, Michael Young Studio), Marvin Chen (President, HKIA), Frank Leung and Irene Lai (Co-founders, Via Architecture), Kacey Wong (Visual Artist, Founding Member of Art Citizens), Elita Lam (Head, Department of Fashion and Image Design, Hong Kong Design Institute), Kathy Wong (Executive Director, Playright), Chris Yuen (Play Environment Consultant, Playright), Florence Chiu (Play Environment Development Officer, Playright), James Acuna (Founder and Creative Director, JJA / Bespoke Architecture), Mark Blackwell (Partner, Morphis), Willie San (Senior Property Services Manager, ArchSD), Doris Fok (Assistant Director, LCSD), Horman Chan (Chief Leisure Manager, LCSD), Sean Affleck (Director, Make Architects), Amy Chan (Curator, Learning and Engagement, M+), Eric Schuldenfrei (Associate Dean, Faculty of Architecture, the University of Hong Kong), Thomas Lau (General Manager, Landscape Architecture and Sustainability, Sino), Paul Zimmerman (Co-Founder and CEO, Designing Hong Kong), Benjamin Cha (Chief Executive, Grosvenor Asia Pacific), Donald Choi (Chief Executive Officer, Chinachem Group), Tony Tse (Member of Legislative Council, Architectural, Surveying, Planning and Landscape, BBS), Sara Wong (Landscape Designer/ Artist, HKDI; Founding member, Para Site), and Helen Fan (M+/ Design Trust Research Fellows).

While Gary Chang’s team engaged the audience in an exploration of height; Sam Jacob’s team is conceptualizing a park with horse racing culture; Stanley Wong’s team is creating a space for connection and conversations; and Mimi Hoang’s team is designing a doorstep playable space! Following the teams’ presentations, a round table discussion moderated by Design Trust Co-founder/ Executive Director, Marisa Yiu, highlighting overarching questions for all mentees to consider as they continue to fine-tune their concepts. How can we design a space for different user groups? How can we retain existing users while bringing in new groups? How can the designs enhance and improve? And how do we create contextual parks?
