Description:

Ramel, a material made out of desert sand, clay and natural binders is currently being developed as a sustainable material substitute. Desert sand is a natural resource that is abundant, but commonly not used in construction due to its fine and rounded grains. Natural binders and homemade systems are being tested to create a strong material comparable to concrete.

With the intention of showing the versatility of the material and its ability to be used to create functional everyday objects entirely at home, Alyina Ahmed has constructed an incense burner, coaster/paper weight, chopstick holder, and multifunctional piece, all created using moulds that are commonly found in households such as container lids, foam blocks and wooden pieces.
