Islands of Hong Kong
Hong Kong, despite its small size, is one of the most urbanized cities with the highest population density in the world. It is blessed with nature and with more than 230 islands which is very rare among mega cities in the world.

As architects, we would like to look into the sustainable development between the city and nature, especially these islands which are very special to Hong Kong. Currently, there are relatively few systematic studies on islands and we would like to conduct a research into their current status and establish an online database that can be shared with other professionals as well as the public.
The research will include basic information of the 230 islands and a coastline study and comparison for Lamma and Hong Kong Island. And our team will investigate five remote islands in Sai Kung to collect the natural environment data.

Tang Chi Chun (Chi) is a registered architect in Hong Kong and the founder of Absence from Island Studio. Chi received his bachelor and master degree of architecture in the University of Hong Kong and has been working in the design practices from different cities and countries including Hong Kong, China and Spain. As born in Hong Kong, he and his studio’s work is to find a unique and creative way to reveal the beauty of this place: a bustling city with its beautiful hidden nature. Many of his team projects are the different scales of regeneration project in city.
Chi is also interested in different aspects in architecture and art including city and nature research, fabrication, digital representation, writing and art installation to explore more possibilities for urban interventions and environmental development.

Our research team includes Tang Chi Chun (Chi), Li Hoi Tsin(Tsin) and Yuen Jing Hong (Leroy) which all of them have architectural background but with different areas of expertise. Chi has 10 years professional experience in architectural design in different international design studio and founded the Absence from Island Studio. After graduated in the bachelor degree of architecture, Tsin have been devoted her time in her another passion: photography before she joined the team. By focusing on detail, now she worked for photography and architecture in the same time. By the way, Music is her another liftn. Leroy has studied in RCA after obtaining the bachelor degree in Hong Kong. He is interested in 3D modelling and re-making the reality with 3D scanning and digitalization technique. Also, music and video filming is his hobbies (In fact, it is our hobbies too!)
