Design Society’s opening exhibition looked at how digitisation empowers design to shape diverse forms of innovation in China and beyond. Under this context, Stickyline stepped out of their previous practice through additional integration of multimedia and participatory design. The design presents digital data of light pollution levels in the Greater Bay Area to raise awareness towards our urban environment.

The experimentation is a combination of parametric design, data visualisation, application and digital fabrication. The addition of communal input comes at the later stage of the installation when it requires audience reflection, collaboration and creativity. Through initial workshops and discussions, the audience also contributed to the development of other design elements such as shapes and colours that stem from their own social reflection, sharing and experimentation.

Stickyline was founded in 2011 by Mic Leong & Soilworm Lai. Focusing on paper engineering and structure development, the creative duo have been transforming two-dimensional planes into three- dimensional forms through deconstruction and reconstruction. By folding and creasing, they have created art and design in its own form as installation art, sculptures, stage designs, window displays, etc.
