Crowd-listening: Civic Technology in Neighbourhood Commoning

This project investigates the potential applications of civic technology in neighbourhood research + engagement towards “commoning”. Neighbourhood Innovation Lab (NIL) believes in human-centred neighbourhood research with defined design objectives: people first, then principle, then production. In this project, NIL is interested in developing a dual RESEARCH + PROTOTYPE initiative, asking: “How do we better listen and visualize our neighbours’ pains + gains around neighbourhood places?”

Operating with the intention of cross-collaboration between different types of stakeholders, the project will be conducted over the span of 6 months, collaborating with stakeholder(s) to test a crowd-listening tool that can improve places in our neighbourhood.

Organisation: Neighbourhood Innovation Lab

Neighbourhood Innovation Lab believes close neighbourly relationships create the unique charm of each neighbourhood. Through various community innovation projects, we seek to understand how to foster an inclusive neighbourhood identity in dense Asian cities.

Using design thinking as our methodology, our projects connect to and create partnerships across multiple neighbourhood stakeholders. By opening up conversations and dialogues, we envision to shape inclusive and human-centred neighbourhoods. We are keen to explore the integration of civic technology and use of data to empower cities and their citizens.

We are an initiative by Architecture Commons. In 2020, we have been named Fast Company’s World Changing Ideas 2020 under the Spaces, Places, and Cities category as Honourable Mention.
