CHICHOIMAO explores local Hong Kong wood craftsmanship in a contemporary way. Through developing new wood works and showcases at different exhibitions and fairs, the project hopes to promote the local wood craftsmanship to audience around the world. CHICHOIMAO’s works are made by solid wood with traditional joinery techniques in a minimal form with fine details balancing usability and aesthetic. The team hopes to develop high quality handcrafted wooden works which fits nowadays living condition in Hong Kong while redefining the manufacturing industry in this city today.

CHICHOIMAO is a wood working studio founded in 2019 Hong Kong. The name CHI CHOI MAO is the pronunciation of Cantonese “自在貓”. CHICHOIMAO creates small sized furniture with solid wood which fits nowadays living conditions. By using traditional joinery techniques, it gives the work a more elegant look with longer life. From designing to all wood works are made in Hong Kong. CHICHOIMAO’s works combined the beauty of fine wood products made by traditional techniques with minimal and modern style, decorative but useful. CHICHOIMAO try to make elegant handcrafted wood furniture which is affordable to everyone.

CHICHOIMAO is founded by Chow Wing Sing, who used to be a commercial photographer in Hong Kong. Sing started his photography carrer from 2004 as a magazine photographer, then start his own photography studio in 2008 which focus on print ads, still and corporate photography. Works included ads for W Hotel, Esquire, Swire, Bank of China (HK), etc. At 2014, Sing learnt wood working shortly during a vacation in Taipei, and practice in his photography studio after back to Hong Kong. At 2019, Sing started a small wood working studio, and began to use the name of CHICHOIMAO to produce and publish his wood work, and become a full-time carpenter.
