Visual culture book publishing is a creative process that gathers, produces, and sustains stories of an era, of people, of places, of mementos, in the form of books. Visual culture books carry multiple layers of stories, its images and text are carriers for heritage conservation of a city, and books tell stories with its physical quality.

BEHIND THE BOOKS project comprising of a visual culture publishing archive exhibition and a series of community programs, serves as a communication basis to share and to reflect 1. the value of books as physical cultural carrier in our art and design culture; 2. social responsibility of book publishing; 3. the right perception of what and who involved in publishing and bookmaking process; and 4. material conservation – publishing physical archive to conserve art and design culture OR simply digital archive can serve its purpose? This will be an inspiration for the current and future publishing practitioners.
STORY (https://www.thestorygoes.org) started as an informal work group within MCCM Creations, pulling together like-minded, creative practitioners to explore various narrative approaches. Between 2010 and 2015, we had initiated and steered several multi-disciplinary, cultural events with an educational and ideas-exchange orientation. Our endeavours are rooted in the following beliefs:
- A cultural and literary legacy well-researched and well-documented are nutrients for the present and future generations;
- Experiences in creativity should be shared and promoted among different communities and different industry sectors;
- In a hybrid city like HK, a creative narrative approach to revisit the creative legacy would stimulate imagination; nurture people's appreciation and awareness of the relationships between heritage, cultures and humanity; and broaden their interest in different cultures and lesser-known cultures, hence, contributing to the harmony, intellectual and aesthetic development of a society.
