Embracing the aesthetics of a laboratory, Island Lights is an interactive archive installation that transforms Hong Kong’s 200+ islands into specimen-like acrylic panels for visitors' exploration. Each panel features a pointcloud visual of an island, derived from aerial LiDAR scans of the city. Programmed and motorised spotlights glide and pause periodically behind the panels, theatrically projecting enlarged visuals onto the wall, as though each island is being unveiled for the first time. The work was supported by Design Trust Seed Grant, and was first presented at deTour 2024 at PMQ.
