Found Basin, Mushroom Fountain Nozzle
Created uniquely for Design Trust Charity Auction 2026, Fortune Basin draws inspiration from the Cantonese expression “盤滿缽滿,” a traditional blessing that signifies abundance and completeness. The artist stacks locally produced plastic wash basins to form a vertical tower. A mushroom-shaped fountain at the apex circulates water endlessly, reimagining everyday household objects as a ritual symbol of prosperity and perpetual flow.
Repetition and elevation transcend the basins’ original labor function, creating a visual emblem of plenitude. The work prompts viewers to recognize fortune in the unassuming materials and rhythms of daily existence.
About OrangeTerry
OrangeTerry’s practice is rooted in the “thingness” of materials, elevating offcuts and discarded objects to the status of protagonists with their own inherent weights, textures and narrative potentials, rather than relegating them to passive wastes. Through subtle acts of impersonation, his hybrid forms—chairs, hangers, luggages—play and act as familiar everyday products, yet their incomplete or altered functions gently reveal how design scripts human behavior. The visual language and formal choices remain closely tied to the ordinary objects, ensuring the work is immediately accessible to non-specialist audiences. This approach fosters empathy, inviting viewers to consider the lives of materials, the labor embedded within them, and their own relationships to systems of surplus and waste. OrangeTerry has gained international acclaim for his "post-industrial" approach to upcycling. A recipient of the 2017 Young Design Talent Award, OrangeTerry transforms discarded materials into luxury sculptures. His portfolio boasts high-profile collaborations with global icons like Rimowa, Adidas.
