Congratulations to Design Trust Grant Recipients Adonian Chan, Clara Cheung , Dim Sum Labs, Jason Hilgefort, Kanta Kochhar-Lindgren, Pelin Tan and Thomas Tsang & Du Yun.
We would also like to extend a warm welcome to the M+/Design Trust 2016 Research Fellows, Joseph Grima and the team of Juliana Kei and Daniel Cooper who have recently arrived in Hong Kong to commence their respective fellowships.
“The Gongkai Galapagos”
Joseph Grima, the noted Genoa-based architect, writer and researcher, will build on his well-known work in the area of open-source, collaborative, de-centralised, and non-hierarchical design by examining the contemporary design ecosystems of Shenzhen and the Pearl River Delta.
“76 Countries and One Administrative Zone: Hong Kong in World Expos”
Daniel Cooper and Juliana Kei, who are pursuing their graduate studies in New York and London, respectively, will undertake a three-month fellowship. They will investigate Hong Kong’s representation on the international stage, focusing on the 1964 New York World’s Fair and Expo ’70 in Osaka, and how those events helped construct and reinforce an image of the territory via a complicated interaction of objects, building technologies, identity, and colonial expectations.
