House of Tai Ping is a 63 years old Hong Kong company, with its rich history; key questions addressed in the workshop included: How do we define Hong Kong identity? And how do we innovate materials and craftsmanship?
During the workshop, Enoch To (PR, Marketing Manager, Asia, Tai Ping) shared on the history and development of Tai Ping, while Michelle Chu (Design Director Asia, Tai Ping) explored with the designers different materials, possibilities, and carpet making techniques. Jennifer Wong (Assistant Curator, M+) also joined the workshop sharing with the designers her research on Tai Ping Archives, and the importance of textile and fashion related items in Hong Kong history. Looking through Wong’s research materials, the designers explored various forms of inspirations, including the Chinese culture, architectural motifs, reliefs, furniture, and mosaics.
