The workshop started with a presentation by Douglas Young (CEO & Co-founder, G.O.D.), sharing on the Hong Kong brand’s unique style or form of aesthetics and products that reinterpret traditional Hong Kong style in new ways. G.O.D. also provides an alternative to traditional souvenirs, as only those who are familiar with Cantonese and English cultures can fully grasp the double meanings in G.O.D.'s esoteric designs.
Douglas’s collection is now housed in his Shek Kip Mei studio has its own definition of Hong Kong, as style and culture, and is used to transform as ideas for his designs, such as the mailboxes, or Yau Ma Tei facades. When asked to choose a prominent cultural object for Hong Kong, Douglas chose the Chinese spoon, with its perfect shape in terms of materiality, function, stackability, cost effectiveness, and mass production and had a long history dating back to the Shang Dynasty.
