Design Trust wishes you a happy new year with good health, energy and seasonal celebration with loved ones. The year of 2022 has demonstrated an energetic restoration of our community’s strength to come together, and remain optimistic through creative collaboration from our newly launched Design Trust Studio home to new micro-parks being unveiled. We look forward to sustaining the spirit and power of collaboration to work together for the new year of 2023 and beyond.

Design Trust Studio’s Inaugural Showcase

The new Design Trust Studio has kicked-off with the Inaugural Showcase, a snapshot of key moments of time that brings together the regional and international design community together. With a sincere commitment to advance design competency, catalysing our programmes to benefit and inspire the public on the role of design, as well as supporting emerging designers and scholars’ research on urgent topics, Design Trust has supported 523 grantees, fellows and mentee designers to its collaborators to date since 2014.

Applications for the next grant cycle will close on 20th January 2023. Apply now!

Design Trust 2023 January Grant Application is now open. Since its establishment in 2014, Design Trust has been offering grant support to individual designers, curators, collectives as well as non-profit organisations. Share with us your ideas and proposals by 20th January 2023. We are also pleased to announce the Grant Recipients from the 2022 October grant cycle. The upcoming projects include research topics on local design, crafts and cultural communities, as well as architecture and urban culture from Hong Kong to GBA.

Design Trust Grant Spotlight “BRUTAL! – Unknown Brutalism Architecture in Hong Kong” received Dezeen Awards 2022 Architecture Photograph of the Year

We are pleased to share that the documentary photo of Kwai Chung Eastern Sea Industrial Building (designed by Peter Y.S. Pun 1975) taken by Kevin Mak from Design Trust Seed Grant research and exhibition “BRUTAL! - Unknown Brutalism Architecture in Hong Kong” led by Bob Pang, received Dezeen Awards 2022 Winner for Architecture Photograph of the Year in both Public Vote and Jury Prize , as the first Hong Kong-based project to win such honour. Congratulations to the team of researchers, architects and creatives.

Design Trust Seed Grant recipient Adam Hudec’s ‘Dust-Free-Chambers’ at Oil Street Art Space

Design Trust is pleased to share a selection of highlighted grant projects in the winter, including Niko Leung and Loky Leung’s “Hong Kong Soil” exhibition at UABB Hong Kong 2022, ‘0 x anything = 0 ?” by Gaybird Leung showcased at Hong Kong Arts Centre, ‘Dust–Free-Chambers’ by Adam Hudec at Oil Street Art Space, as well as the exhibition "Nail Salon – Spatial Implications of Women’s Labour” by Chiara Oggioni and Yi Sun currently on-show at PMQ Hong Kong.

Sitting Out Area Under Flyover In Hill Road – First Micro-Park in Central & Western District Softly Opens December 20th 2022



The Sitting Out Area Under Flyover In Hillroad design concept, “Park under the Flyover”

The design of the Sitting Out Area Under Flyover in Hill Road has adopted a playful approach, taking the vertical height of the flyover on Hill Road as major consideration. A sculptural lighting installation together with benches, public spaces and chess tables are provided to bring new perception and experiences to residents and park users. A timeline installation of the district is inscribed on the slope ground where the Sitting Out Area Under Flyover in Hill Road is built, blending the old with the new in the design of this open space and interactive area beneath the flyover.

Upcoming: Design Trust Auction 2023



Design Trust Auction 2023 will take place on Saturday, March 18th, 2023.

This year, our annual fund-raising event – Design Trust Auction 2023 will be held on Saturday, 18th March 2023. Design Trust Auction 2023 will feature exceptional and limited-edition pieces of art, furniture and decorative items as well as exclusive experience. All the fundraising proceeds will go towards education, micro-parks, design development projects, and research grants for the DESIGN TRUST initiative, created in 2014 by registered charity Hong Kong Ambassadors of Design that was founded in 2007.

Marisa Yiu (Co-founder/ Executive Director), Kamsen Lau (Chairman, Board of Design Trust) and the Board of Directors are pleased to welcome new advisors to join Greater Bay Area Design Council: Helen So, James “JJ” Acuña and Manfred Yuen. With expertise from cultural leadership to architecture design and research from Shenzhen, Hong Kong to wider Greater Bay Area cities, these new members will strengthen the growth of Design Trust in the future.
