Design Trust Announces New Studio Space and Welcomes New Board Members: Elizabeth Chu and Jonathan Cheung

Design Trust is pleased to announce, our registered charity since 2007 has finally moved into its first ever permanent office & studio space, where designers' research work and grantees’ projects will be archived and showcased. With this new permanent base, Marisa Yiu (Co-founder/ Executive Director), Kamsen Lau (Chairman, Board of Design Trust) and the Board of Directors are also excited to welcome new members to the Board: Ms. Elizabeth Chu and Mr. Jonathan Cheung.

M+ / Design Trust Research Fellowship 2021 Public Presentation will be held on 31 March 2021

Anouchaka van Driel, M+ / Design Trust Research Fellow of 2021, is going to present her research findings “China and the ‘Cosmotechnics’ of Fashion” at an online public talk on 31 March 2022, followed by a panel discussion with Shaway Yeh, Group Style Editorial Director of Modern Media and Founder of YehYehYeh.

Design Trust 2022 April Grant Application is now open. Share with us your ideas and proposals by 20th April 2022. Design Trust offers grants to designers, curators, collectives and non-profit organisations for project proposals that are relevant to the context and content of Hong Kong and the region. With the ongoing 5th wave pandemic, we will prioritise cultural and community-based Seed Grant research for the 2022 April cycle. We are also pleased to announce the Grant Recipients from the January 2022 grant cycle.

Design Trust Seed Grant book publication “HONG KONG MODERN Architecture of the 1950s-1970s” by Walter Koditek was launched with an exhibition at Goethe-Gallery in February 2022. The project gives a comprehensive overview on the modernist architecture in combining photography, detailed background information and academic essays.

Design Trust Seed Grant project “No humans in the City, but Weeds”

Design Trust Seed Grant project “No humans in the City, but Weeds” share their research on the website after the project's exhibit as part of the Hong Kong Pavilion at the 2021 Venice Biennale of Architecture. Taking Hong Kong as a case in point, architectural designer Joel Austin and artist Kwan Q Li observes how data is materialised within urban density, and ponders a future convolution of human and post-human urban environments.

Design Trust is pleased to share grant projects highlights in the summer. Including “From the Creators: Informal Façade Customization Tactics” by Francisco Garcia Moro that showcases informal dwelling practices as creative presentations, aiming to review codes and regulations interaction with city building and identity and “CoralBot” by MakerBay Foundation, a low-cost and open source Coral Reef Mapping Drone to monitor and assess the health of corals in Hong Kong and worldwide.

Design Trust / Royal College of Art Fellowship in Design Curation 2022

Design Trust is pleased to announce Hoyee Tse as the award recipient of the Design Trust / Royal College of Art Fellowship in Design Curation 2022 under the theme of “Hyperlocal”. Established in 2017, the fellowship scheme has supported five fellows to carry out dedicated research projects focused on various aspects of design curation, from the role of curating in the context of public art, to fashion production and consumption, AI and other emerging technologies and education.
