Design Trust Futures Studio – ‘Heritage is Innovation’ Exhibition



DTFS flagship programme 2019, “Heritage is Innovation” Exhibition from 13 – 30 September 2019.

DESIGN TRUST FUTURES STUDIO flagship programme is currently on show with public tours and enriching community workshops underway. Under the 2019 theme “Heritage is innovation” designers are matched with mentors to develop new works framed by a curatorial brief and a vision to create new interactive works in the context of the historic Haw Par Mansion. Conceptualized by Lead Curator/ Executive director Marisa Yiu.
The programme’s mission is to make the powerful and positive cultural assets of Hong Kong more visible, and to find inspirations from the past to shape the future of our creative culture and collective heritage.

Upcoming: Design Trust Announce Creative Collaboration with Archigram



Archigram – Dennis Crompton met with young designers (dtby_, Sky Yutaka, New Office Works) in Hong Kong in July 2019.

Design Trust, an initiative of the Hong Kong Ambassadors of Design announce a collaboration with renowned architectural collective Archigram to create a virtual environment for this year’s annual Design Trust charity event that supports the growth of the initiatives and programmes by the Hong Kong Ambassadors of Design (HKAoD), now in its 12th year. The funds raised- advocate for the positive values that design brings to our city and beyond with a mission to advance design competency and expertise building for the benefit of the public, and supporting young scholars and emerging designers to excel in their research work, projects and career growth.

2019 Design Trust / RCA Fellowship in Design Curation Announcement



Announcement of the 2019 Design Trust / RCA Fellow - Anne Zhou.

Design Trust and the Royal College of Art are delighted to announce the Design Trust/RCA Fellowship in Design Curation 2019-2020 Fellow is Anne Zhou. Anne Zhou is starting her year-long fellowship in design curation in Royal College of Art (RCA) in London, UK. Her earlier projects explore how everyday products connect our mental and physical worlds. Kinesthetic Time, one of her previous projects, is now on view at the exhibition Provoke, Unlearn, Change: Designing Perspectives, co-organized by Zhou at Venice Design.

Design Trust New Board Member: Denise Lau

Marisa Yiu (Co-founder/ Executive Director), Alan Lo (Chairman, Board of Design Trust) and the Board of Directors are excited to welcome a new member to the Board: Denise Lau. Denise heads up the distribution arm of her family business The B.S.C. Group, and is also the vision behind the B.S.C.’s lifestyle store COLOURLIVING. With decades of industry experience and being involved as a trustee of DESIGN TRUST she looks forward to complementing and supporting the governance of the charity, international programmes and strategic work for the future growth of DESIGN TRUST initiatives.

Design Trust, Design Criticism: "The Strange Intimacy of High Density" an essay by Spanish architect Diego Caro Serrano, who lives in Mei Foo and a participant in the recent summer writing workshop "Criticism Now: Developing Architecture and Design Criticism in the Pearl River Delta", led by Los Angeles-based Mimi Zeiger, architecture critic and Design Trust Seed Grant recipient is now published online.

Installation,“Social Network Factory”, by PAO at Sea World Culture and Arts Center

Design Trust’s feature grant recipient, People’s Architecture Office (PAO), founded by He Zhe, James Shen and Zang Feng and consists of a multi-disciplinary team of architects, engineers, product designers and urbanists, was inspired from the bustling everyday social activities that are common in the streets of Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Hong Kong, through their project they address how the results of design planning on newly developed urban settings can foster a sense of belonging and social connection.
