Upcoming: Travelling Architectures Exhibit and Performance by Design Trust Feature Grant Recipient Kanta Kochhar-Lindgren

7. 6. 2017

Design Trust Feature Grant Recipient Kanta Kochhar-Lindgren and her team will present their project Traveling Architectures, an Interactive Exhibit with Tour and Multi-Media Performance with Q & A, at the HKU Black Box on June 17, 2017, from 11 am-6 pm. The project, spearheaded by the Traveling Architectures Collective with Kanta Kochhar-Lindgren, Ph.D., choreographer and researcher; Vincci Mak, landscape architect; Lee Chi-Wai, lighting designer; and Seth Henderson, documentary filmmaker, features the collaborative work of the Collective, other contributing artists, and community participants from the Open Workshop Series.

Traveling Architectures—a research and production platform inspired by pai dongs (hawkers’ stalls)—prioritizes participatory design and performance methods which focus on the creation of transportable performance installations adaptable to diverse community sites.  The Interactive Exhibit with Guided Tour will feature visual displays on the history of the pai dong and traveling architectures; a variety of newly designed traveling architectural forms, such as a pop-up pai dong, miniature houses on collapsible frames, and folding paper architectures; an architectural game map; and selected creations from the Public Workshop series.

Traveling Architectures Multi-Media Performance—with guest artists Terry Wu, Kimho Ip, Christine He, Mayson Tong, Mary Jane Tang, and Dorothy Barbara Chu Wing Ka—explores the histories of the pai dongs, lighting, textiles, and cinema. An investigation of the architecture of dance and the dance of architectures in the context of Hong Kong, the performance is both documentary and poetic.

Traveling Architectures is a Feature Grant, funded by Design Trust (an initiative of Hong Kong Ambassadors of Design).
