A Design Dialogue at Spring Workshop saw Pelin Tan, Design Trust Seed Grant Recipient, shared her research findings on her project entitled the “Territorial Sea and Contiguous Zone”. Tan’s project surveyed the Pearl River Delta from a unique perspective of urbanization from the lens of sea culture and the transformation of areas such as Nansha and Panyu in the Pearl River Delta. She mapped the fishing villages in the area and built an understanding of the delta ontology, role of the shifting female labour in the context of design and engagement of communities.
With a short documentary video, Tan presented her research about the “Delta, Infrastructure and Labor” and illustrated how infrastructure is no longer for citizens but for infrastructure itself. The presentation was followed by an interactive discussion with panelists Jiang Jun and Arlette Quynh-Anh Tran. Jiang talked about the historical background of the Delta and how the infrastructural developments affect society and local communities, while Quynh-Anh Tran shared her views from her experience in Vietnam.
