Congratulations to Design Trust Grant Recipients of the recent January 2018 cycle: Tuba Doğu + Gizem Sivri, Cyril Lee, +853 Cultural Association, dérive LAB, and Disnovation.org.

The awarded grants span a diverse range of projects from “An Archaeology of Congestion: Politics of Mass Housing in Hong Kong” by Tuba Doğu + Gizem Sivri, which aims to provide an alternative reading of the consequence of Hong Kong’s urban development and its implications on mass housing; “Material World: A Serious Game for surviving Materialism” by Cyril Lee, who will be developing a strategic card game that promotes Lagom lifestyle through Serious Gaming and interactions; “This is My City / PEARL PAKMap” by +853 Cultural Association, whose observation and research on the PRD borderscape will be shared with the public with an aim to activate creative thinking and curiosity, as well as developing critical thinking and a questioning the role of identity; “Derivas por China” by dérive LAB, who will reimagine the cities of Hong Kong and Guangzhou through an alternative lens to urban reform; and “Shanzhai Archeology” by Disnovation.org, whose collection and archive of shanzhai culture and manufacturing in the Pearl River Delta will uncover new insights.

Design Trust is also pleased to support and expand the projects of Grant Recipients New Office Works, Elaine Ng, and the team of Xiaoxuan Lu, Ivan Valin, and Susanne Trumpf on their continuing indepth investigations.

Our next grant application deadline is 20th April 2018. Design Trust offers grants to individual designers, curators, collectives and non-profit organisations for projects and activities that are relevant to various design disciplines to the context and content of Hong Kong and the Greater Pearl River Delta region. We support innovative, thought-provoking investigations in various design disciplines from graphics, media, wearables, architecture to the built environment.

DESIGN TRUST FEATURE GRANTS foster cross-disciplinary projects focusing on the Greater Pearl River Delta region. Projects awarded have a wide-reaching audience and maybe sited in an exhibition or biennale venue with international recognition and standing.

DESIGN TRUST SEED GRANTS foster a culture of experimentation, testing and sharing. This grant is awarded to individuals seeking to kick start a meaningful and intellectual project with social, educational, economical or environmental impact for communities.

Please note from 2019 onwards, applications will be reviewed twice a year. Submission deadlines will be on 20th of April and 20th of October.
